Not only do we have to beware the riptide of rebellion, but we also must avoid the sinkhole of guilt and shame. God is greater than our biggest sins and our worst betrayals.

I. David's failures (2 Sam. 13-18):
-- Failure to protect
-- Failure to reconcile
-- Failure to be accessible
-- Failure to be sacrificial

II. But God is a better parent than we are (Ps. 3):
-- God protects his children, even when they are struggling (Ps. 3:1-3).
-- God listens when his children cry (v. 4).
-- God preserves when we are weary (v. 5).
-- God stands with us, even when we are surrounded by those who oppose us (v. 6).
-- God will deliver us from all our enemies (v. 7).
-- God has the right to save whomever he pleases, whenever he pleases (v. 8).
