Clean and Unclean (Mark 7:1-13)

Michael Argabrite, November 22, 2015
Part of the Mark series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

What makes us unclean before God? Put another way, what is it that makes us presentable to come before the one who made us and whose will sustains us? When the scribes and Pharisees saw Jesus’s disciples eating without following their exacting preparation rituals, they accused Jesus of promoting Lawlessness. His answer had nothing to do with germ theory, and showed no interest in playing games. The issue, Jesus said, was not one of food and washing, but of one’s heart and the way it overflows in our words and actions.

I. The Interrogation of Jesus by the Pharisees and Scribes (Mark 7:1-5)
II. The Indictment of the Pharisees and Scribes by Jesus (v. 6-9)
III. The Illustration of how the Pharisees and Scribes Led People Away from the Law of God (v. 10-13)
