Citizens of Heaven: Remembering Whose We Are (1 Peter 2:9-12)

Larry McCall, August 9, 2024
Part of the Laurelville 2024 series, preached at a Laurelville service

This first sermon of Larry McCall's series, "Citizens of Heaven," was not recorded.

How do we live as citizens of heaven (Phil. 3:20), living in a fallen world? We must remember whose we are, and 1 Peter 2:9-12 reminds us:

I. We are loved (v. 9-11). All of the Bible's imperatives (commands) are based on indicatives (what is true about God's love for us).

II. Deal with the war within us (v. 11). God has given us the Holy Spirit to indwell us, and his grace teaches us to say no to sin (Titus 2:11-14).

III. Guard our reputations (v. 12). As we live out the gospel, others will notice. By showing Christ's kindness, patience, and gentleness, we may have opportunities to explain how and why we are different.
