The Meaning of Baptism (Romans 6:1-7, 1 Peter 3:18-22, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Colossians 2:11-12, Acts 2:37-39, Ephesians 2:12-22, 1 Peter 2:9-10)

Mike Yates, September 24, 2023
Part of the The Ordinances series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Why is baptism so significantly tied to following Christ? At least four reasons:

I. Baptism is a confession of deserved judgment and undeserved rescue (Rom. 6:1-7).

II. Baptism is a picture of being washed by Christ (1 Pet. 3:21-22; 1 Cor. 6:9-11).

III. Baptism is a sign of a sign, pointing to the unseen circumcision of the heart (Col. 2:11-12).

IV. Baptism is a public declaration that we are part of a new nation (Acts 2:37-39; Eph. 2:12-22; 1 Pet. 2:9-10).
