Principles of Eldership (Matthew 16:16-19)

Michael Argabrite, October 12, 2014
Part of the Elders and Deacons (Sunday School series) series, preached at a Sunday School service

Principle 1: The Local Church (ekklesia, called-out ones) are to be governed by Christ.

Principle 2: The ministry of the church is primarily the work of the members: in worship, in nurturing one another, and in witness toward the world.

Principle 3: Governing structures should not aim to include as many people as possible in office-holding, but to free and equip as many people as possible for ministry.

Principle 4: Christ is the head of the church, and all His disciples are on level ground before Him.

Principle 5: Not inconsistent with equality, God has charged some under Christ with the leadership of the church.

Principle 6: Under Christ and His Word, local churches make decisions (elder-led, congregation-informed)
